Obsidian teasing new game with mysterious quotes - is this Dungeon Siege 4?

Obsidian Entertainment has created a host of excellent, ambitious and under-appreciated RPGs over the years, having worked on Neverwinter Nights 2, Knights of the Old Republic 2, Alpha Protocol, Dungeon Siege 3 and Fallout 3: New Vegas over the last decade.

Whichever way you slice it, that’s a hefty amount of quality role-playing entertainment and while Obsidian works on its next title, South Park: The Stick of Truth (also an RPG) and Wasteland 2, the studio has begun to tease another project.

Obsidian Project X - Teaser Banner

Obsidian’s official site kicked up a quote image recently, accompanied by a forum post under the thread ‘Project X.’ Titled “(4) What do the words mean?” the post and image read as follows:

“Nothing. The Dirge of Eír Glanfath is sound without form, a lone voice crying out in mourning because it must.”

Owing to the fact that the image contained the number ‘4,’ speculation quickly spread regarding the possibility of a new Dungeon Siege or Fallout game, both of which are due for their fourth series entry. Today, however, a new forum entry and image have appeared, this time numbered ‘3’ with the title “(3) The book unread is unwritten” and the following quote:

“The reason we don’t explain it is the reason we use it. Its power is in its mystery. That is the Leaden Key, in part, in whole. Is it clear?

Digging for truth buries the seeker.”

Very intriguing. Very mysterious. Very meaningless - for now.

What could this be? What do you think Obsidian is working on? The lore sounds epic and fantasy-based enough to be an RPG, but doesn’t really fit the Fallout universe. Perhaps it’s a whole new intellectual property? What about an expansion for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim?

Considering Obsidian’s current position, we would hazard a guess that it’s an already-known property under development for another publisher, but the teaserly nature of the reveal points to something that has sprung from the minds of the team itself. Very puzzling.

We’ll wait for the third and fourth quotes and the eventual reveal to find out what Obsidian is teasing us with… unless we find out sooner!
