Gamescom 2011: Tekken 3D 'Prime Edition' announced

Tekken Art

The 3DS has been gaining a fair amount of momentum in the past few weeks following a global price cut and increasing support from developers. A bevy of well-known franchises are headed to 3DS this year including Metal Gear Solid, FIFA, Sonic and Rayman so it comes as no surprise that Namco Bandai are also climbing aboard by bringing the Tekken franchise to the system.

A trailer for that project recently emerged from gamescom, and like any good promotional piece it reveals all sorts of tasty new morsels of information. For starters, the game will be called Tekken 3D Prime Edition. ‘Tekken 3D’ was to be expected, but the addition of ‘Prime Edition’ refers to the fact that the title will come bundled with a 3D version of the upcoming CG film Tekken: Blood Vengeance.

The movie will be included on the game cartridge and will be the first of its kind on 3DS. If you don’t mind watching a full-length film on a 3.5 inch screen then it’s definitely going to be an awesome bonus!

With regard to the game’s release date - Namco Bandai has only said that the title will be “available soon”. Blood Vengeance is due out in Japan early next month so hopefully Tekken 3D will be in 3DS owners’ hands before the holiday rush begins in November.
