Uncharted 3 multiplayer detailed in new trailer, public beta confirmed

Earlier today we brought you news of the latest announced features for the multiplayer portion of Uncharted 3, Naughty Dog?s next crushing action adventure game.

While great features such as split-screen multiplayer and ?more cinematic? cooperative offerings have been outed, as well as greater customisation options for weapons and characters, more information has since been released to get us drooling.

Let?s begin with the just-released Uncharted 3 multiplayer trailer, and continue on from there:

Uncharted 3 ? Multiplayer Trailer

First of all, yes: The Uncharted 3 multiplayer beta has been confirmed to be ?a thing,? and will begin, worldwide, on June 28th this year ? you?ll be able to gain access if you?re a PlayStation Plus member, or if you purchase a specially marked copy of inFamous 2 when that game releases in early June.

Second, a couple new multiplayer modes were announced, namely Three Team Deathmatch (three teams of two players versus each other) and Free For All (everybody fights for themselves), while Team Deathmatch remains. We?ll get to find out about the other competitive multiplayer modes in the coming months.

Joining a multiplayer match is also being made easier with the addition of the ?Late Join? function to help players get into games that are already in progress, while same-console split-screen has been confirmed with the ability to sign into two different PSN IDs for most gametypes.

A ?Buddy? system has also been revealed, which will allow you to spawn into games with another player and ?collectively share your successes throughout the match with each other.?

As revealed in our original report, Uncharted 3 multiplayer will feature greater options for customisation over Uncharted 2 multiplayer, with ?hundreds of customizable parts, from accessories to shirts and pants to a deep weapon customization feature,? with an emblem editor mentioned to allow you to custom create your own badge with decals and basic image editing tools (scale and rotate) ? this will then show up on your character (?and even possibly in the environment during matches,? Naughty Dog teases).

Customisation options extend to weapon changes such as scopes and clip sizes, and Boosters (Uncharted?s version of character perks) will make another appearance with ?old favourites? and new inclusions, as ?Paid Boosters? are introduced to give you access to a one-time Booster you can use during a match. Something called ?Medal Kickbacks? are also on the cards, which require you to achieve a certain number of Medals before activating (you can see this in action in the multiplayer trailer above).

Naughty Dog says that these new customisation options have enabled the team to look at how Uncharted 2 multiplayer worked with level ranks and cash, and then completely revamp the system, now allowing you to pick up items from treasure chests scattered around maps, while including a ?Mission? system to help you unlock other items and modifiers over the course of a few matches ? complete certain match objectives and tasks over ?days of playtime? and you can unlock equipment to make you a more effective killing machine.

Last of the new Uncharted multiplayer features is the ?Power Play,? an event that activates when one team is far behind the other in terms of points ? Power Plays ?provide the team on top with an opportunity to maximize their cash for the match, while evening the odds a little for the team on the losing end of the equation and giving them the opportunity to close the gap a little.?

If a match is very close as the round time ticks down to zero, ?Overtime? will activate to add more seconds to the clock, and if Overtime isn?t enough to determine the match winner by more than one point, Sudden Death is activated where the last players standing will determine the outcome of the round.

Oh, just a second. One last in-game multiplayer feature that you may be interested in: Sprinting. You?ll be able to sprint in Uncharted 3 multiplayer, but Naughty Dog assures us:

?Don?t hate on it until you?ve had a chance to go hands on! We feel it works extremely well and, of course, we?ve built Uncharted 3 multiplayer to take into account that you can sprint.?

There are a few more bits of bobs regarding Uncharted 3 multiplayer at the PlayStation Blog (including information on social media integration, like Facebook and YouTube, as well as an example of the progression of a multiplayer match), which you can read through over here.
