Add playback hotkeys to Amazon Cloud Player with a Chrome extension

Sure, Amazon's Cloud Player works -- as long as you're in the U.S. or willing to do some tinkering -- but it's fairly simplistic at the moment. There are plenty of features missing which we'd like to see added -- but since Cloud Player is a Web app we don't have to wait for Amazon!

Google Chrome users, for example, can add playback hotkeys with an extension called keyMazony. Once installed, you'll have keyboard control of your Amazon Cloud Player queue. keyMazony commands will work as long as you're in the same Chrome window as Cloud Player, even if its tab doesn't have focus. The key combinations are customizable as well -- just make sure you don't set up a combo that conflicts with another extension or Chrome's built-in keyboard shortcuts.

Rambus planning appeal after losing ITC patent case against LSI and STMicroelectronics

Rambus has lost the ITC dispute it filed with most of the electronics industry back in the day. Only LSI and STMicroelectronics remained as respondents after the company negotiated settlements with Freescale, Broadcom, MediaTek and NVIDIA. In its decision, the court found that some of the patents were unenforceable, while others ceased to be under the "clean hands" doctrine because Rambus had allegedly destroyed relevant documents. Company general counsel, Thomas Lavelle, has said in a statement that its next move might be to make an appeal to the Federal Circuit -- where it's hoping for better luck.

Samsung: Galaxy S III's universal search function 'inadvertently removed', will return to UK models in the next few days

After being unceremoniously stripped in a recent OTA update, Samsung has told TechRadar that the Galaxy S III's universal search function will return -- at least in the UK. A spokesperson for Samsung said that the "inadvertent removal" will be remedied in the "correct software upgrade" over the next few days. It sends a mixed message on why the feature was removed in the first place -- and makes us wonder whether the search box will ever return to the Sprint iteration any time soon. Still, it's good news for anyone that's having trouble keeping tabs on all those Angry Birds iterations. Gotta finish 'em all.

Hasbro Lazer Tag hands-on (video)

The NERF has been dropped, but Hasbro's Lazer Tag system is still the same awesome toy we got a taste of in February. The difference is, now they're retail ready. Individual blasters, complete with iDevice dock, will hit shelves in just over a week, while packages of two are scheduled for October 1st. The companion iOS app is already available through iTunes, but a rep from Hasbro still describes it as being in beta form (an update is on its way that will remove that tag and simplify the initial set-up). The same rep was also nice enough to swing by the Engadget compound and deliver us a pile of blasters to test ourselves, which we immediately took out for a test run in Washington Square Park. Certified testers (and tweakers) get Jelly Bean for their Honeycomb era Xoom WiFis

Considering that the Motorola Xoom WiFi was one of the first tabs to devour Ice Cream Sandwich, its plans to pop Android 4.1 Jelly Bean are hardly a surprise. While there's no official delivery date for the average user, certified testers who signed up for a pre-release won't have to wait -- it's just been pushed out to their devices. Of course, enterprising tinkerers can always get what they want as well, by installing it using a USB host cable or flashing a recovery file. If you're one of those brave souls, you'll score smoother performance, new search options and better keyboard -- but there may still be a few bugs before the full rollout happens. Also, if you were looking forward to finally having the update's Chrome pack-in, it missed the pre-release Jelly Bean bus and you'll have to stop at the Play store to grab it. Nintendo announces 'Month of Mario', four eShop titles discounted leading up to NSMB2 launch

Nintendo has revealed that four Mario titles will be discounted on the 3DS eShop over the next month in celebration of the upcoming launch of New Super Mario Bros. 2. The ‘Month of Mario’ begins today, July 26th, and sees a new Mario game being offered at a discounted rate each week leading up to NSMB2’s release on August 19th in North America.

Here are the dates, titles and prices related to this special offer:

• July 26 to August 1 - Super Mario Bros. ($3.99)

• August 2 to August 8 - Super Mario Land ($2.99)

• August 9 to August 15 - Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins ($2.99)

• August 16 to August 22 - Mario’s Picross ($2.99)

These discounts currently only apply to the US 3DS eShop but we’ll keep you updated if Nintendo announces a similar scheme for Europe.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 will be released for 3DS on August 17th in PAL territories and on August 19th in the US - the same day the 3DS XL is released over there.

Ubisoft has just revealed a cracking line-up of games for this year’s edition of gamescom, which takes place from August 15th to the 19th in Cologne, Germany.

Ubisoft has further revealed that its gamescom 2012 press conference will take place on August 15th at 3pm (local Germany time) at the posh-sounding Konrad-Adenauer-Saal, Congress-Centrum North

“Top Ubisoft executives” are said to be present at the conference to unveil new free-to-play titles set in the worlds of “some of Ubisoft’s popular franchises” while the company will also make further announcements regarding its plans for e-sports and “growing online game genres.”
