Associate producer at Relic Entertainment Otto Ottosson could not have combined a more perfect sequence of words together to make Warhammer 40: Space Marine appeal to me, personally, than a sentence he constructed while talking about the game?s multiplayer.
At the end of an interview discussing the two factions you?ll play as in Warhammer 40: Space Marine multiplayer (8 V 8 matches with Space Marines and Chaos Space Marines), the three different classes (Tactical, Devastator and Assault Marine) the game modes (Annihilation and Seize Ground), the multitude of customisation options and upgrades (earned by completing tasks and performing actions) and the balance that had to be met while taking the included factions into consideration, Ottoson remarked:
?Because of the power of the Space Marine, the fantasy of the Space Marine - you don?t kill a Space Marine in two bullets, right? It takes a little bit so the battle takes a little longer - you got shields and then you?ve got health to take down.
?So it ends up feeling a lot more sort of old school, it feels a lot more like Quake 3 or Unreal Tournament or something like that, and we really feel that?s sort of refreshing in today?s market.?
Of course I?m not expecting the multiplayer of Warhammer 40K: Space Marine to actually be like Quake 3, but if comparisons can at least be drawn between the two then I?m all for it!
Listen to Ottosson speak in the interview below as we get good looks at Warhammer 40K: Space Marine?s multiplayer in action:
