THQ will not ?carry forward? with Red Faction franchise due to poor performance

Red Faction: Armageddon Box Art (Small)

During a recent investor report in which THQ revealed disappointing company-wide first quarter performance, CEO Brian Farrell announced that the publisher will not ?carry forward? with the Red Faction franchise (at least in any meaningful way) in the future due to ?disappointing performance.?

Farrell explained that, in today?s ?hit-driven, core gaming business,? even reasonably popular and highly polished games such as Red Faction will have a tough time in terms of sales performance, as these titles ?face a bar that continues to move higher and higher.?

In addition, Farrell went on to say that the latest game in the Red Faction series, Red Faction: Armageddon, ?did not resonate with a sufficiently broad console gaming audience,” and has unfortunately been relegated to the ?niche.?

“Moving forward, our core game titles must meet a very high quality standard with strong creative and product differentiation, appeal to a broad audience, and be marketed aggressively,? Farrell continued.

In order to meet this new standard of quality, THQ is said to be revising its internal review process, as work continues on Saints Row: The Third and the Guillermo del Toro project, inSane.

El33tonline thought very highly of both Red Faction: Guerrilla and this year’s Red Faction: Armageddon, awarding both titles a weighty 4 out of 5.

The latest game in particular is notable for including all of the destructive capabilities that the series is known for while providing a more focussed narrative and structure. Read El33tonline’s review of review of Red Faction: Armageddon to see why we think it’s a series worth continuing.
