“Fundamentally, the first-person shooter needs to pull the player into the action,” explains id Software legend Kevin Cloud, “to have him ducking and dodging in his chair what he sees coming at him on the screen.”
“But with RAGE,” Cloud continues, “we’ve gone beyond that.”
“There’s so many different things to do. So many different characters to interact with, there’s this world to explore, there’s vehicles to drive, so it just becomes immersive on so many levels, that when the player is in it he’s engaged with not just the action, but the story, the characters, the world.”
That’s a pretty succinct way to sum up the experience of RAGE, id Software’s next first-person shooter, but in this latest developer diary for the game other people working on the project (including creative director Tim Willits) go on to explain ‘The Wasteland,’ essentially the hub world of RAGE that players will be able to explore either on foot or in their buggies to reach new missions and discover hidden areas.
As always, RAGE is looking amazing and with new glimpses of the in-game action, this title seems to have everything under control as far as gameplay goes, too. Watch the fourth RAGE developer diary below to explore the harsh environments of The Wasteland:
