In the wake of the formal announcement for the long-awaited Starhawk from Sony Computer Entertainment and developer Lightbox Interactive, the pair have released a trailer and new details for the action game to give us the official scoop on this 2012 PlayStation 3 exclusive title.
Billed as a ?fast-paced? third-person shooter, Starhawk is set in the distant, frontier-themed future in the far reaches of space, where two factions (the human Rifters and the mutated, psychotic Outcast) are locked in battle over a precious but dangerous resource ? Rift Energy.
In the midst of this battle during the events of Starhawk, you?ll take on the role of a hired gunslinger by the name of Emmett Graves who currently finds himself shunned by society due to his exposure to Rift Energy. Partially mutated because of this exposure, Graves is still clinging onto his humanity as he travels towards his home settlement of White Sands on planet Dust.
On his way, Graves will ?face a mysterious outlaw and his band of Outcast warriors to only find out that this assignment may mean more to him than he could ever imagine. He will soon find out that his family is involved in the clash between the Outcast and the Rifters and therefore must decide between those close to him and those he swore to protect.?
The third-person shooter action of Starhawk will include the ability to call down offensive and defensive structures from a drop ship orbiting in space, allowing players to change the landscape of the game in the blink of an eye as massive, self-building constructions crash to the ground before you.
This ability is known as the ?Build and Battle System,? and you?ll have access to buildings, vehicles and additional firepower by strategically placing and calling in supplies, effortlessly changing the tide of a given battle in an instant. In addition, players will be able to take advantage of an array of ground- and air-based vehicles, including mechs that transform into jets!
While Starhawk will contain a fully-featured singleplayer campaign, the game will also play host to 32-player online multiplayer modes, as well as four-player online and offline cooperative play, and split-screen play. To help support the multiplayer offering of Starhawk, developer Lightbox will include a ton of great-sounding community features, including tournaments, leaderboards, and extensive support for clans.
Additionally, ?[p]layers can keep up to date with the community events calendar, ticker tape updates, and a Starhawk Android app that will allow users to keep track of friends, clan mates, and stats when not online.?
