Assassin's Creed III Banner

The Assassin’s Creed series has always taken a cue from historical events but Assassin’s Creed III appears to take this interesting dynamic to the next level. The game revolves around one of the most significant events in recent history - the American Revolution - and features some of the most important historical figures and moments from this period of political upheaval.

The latest trailer for AC III explores the ‘Boston Tea Party’ that took place in 1773. This was the event that ignited the Revolution and ultimately led to the birth of a nation.

Take a look below:

Assassin’s Creed III will be released for PS3 and Xbox 360 on October 30th in the US and October 31st in European territories. The game will also form part of the Wii U’s launch line-up, releasing on November 18th in the US and November 30th in European territories. A PC version is expected on November 20th in North America and November 23rd in Europe.

We're live from CEATEC 2012 in Chiba, Japan!

We're live from CEATEC 2012 in Chiba, Japan!

Japan's annual electronics expo is about to kick off in the Tokyo suburb of Chiba, and we've settled down for the week to deliver a peek inside Makuhari Messe, where local carriers will demonstrate their R&D wares, a fair share of robots are expected make their debut and component manufacturers will provide a hint of what's to come. And, because the Tokyo Motor Show is held only once every two years, that winter exhibition will make a smaller appearance within these Chiba halls, with vehicle designers showing off their latest contributions to the automotive industry. The fun begins in just a few minutes, when dozens of diligent guards will lift the gates to the show. As always, you can follow along from home without spending a single yen. Just keep an eye on our homepage, or head over to the CEATEC 2012 tag for a complete roster of this year's show coverage.

Microsoft set to get back in the news business with relaunched MSN

Microsoft set to get back in the news business with relaunched MSN

Microsoft isn't exactly a stranger to the news business. It founded Slate Magazine way back in 1996 as part of its then still-nascent MSN website, and it partnered with NBC that same year on the MSNBC cable news network. While it's since sold off both Slate and its stake in MSNBC, it looks like the company is now taking another big swing at producing its own news operation. As Reuters reports, Microsoft is making "big, multi-million dollar investment" to create what is being described as a "decent-sized media operation," one that will be a part of the new-look MSN that the company has also announced today. Details remain light beyond that, but Reuters says the new MSN will still "chiefly aggregate news" from traditional sources like Reuters and the AP in addition to producing its own content. As for that new MSN itself, it's unsurprisingly built with tablets (and Windows 8, specifically) in mind, with a design that's tailored for full-screen use and touch input. Its launch wil coincide with Windows 8's debut on October 26th, but you can get an early look at the link below and in the video after the break.

Video: How Colorado beat out rest of the world for setting of Forza Horizon, plus barn finds!

Forza Horizon video game screencap

Turn 10 studios has released another video bringing us behind the scenes of its upcoming extension to the Forza Motorsport franchise, Forza Horizon. Hitting store shelves on October 23, Forza Horizon leaves the race tracks behind by putting players in an open-world environment that's modeled after Colorado. How did Colorado get the nod? As the video explains, it was one of 30 real-world locations being considered, but its combinations of excellent driving roads and breathtaking scenery made it the obvious choice.

Game developers took trips to the Centennial State and returned with hundreds of hours of video and over 50,000 images from which to build their own version. What they built is a fictionalized version of Colorado assembled from all of its best parts: plains, canyons, lakes, forests, mountains, red rock formations, towns and, of course, the Horizon festival around which the entire game is based.

According to Turn 10, you'll be able to drive the same cars from Forza Motorsport 4 in Forza Horizon, and your game world will be populated with AI cars and other real players driving their own cars via Xbox Live. Challenging them to a race is as simple as pulling up alongside their car and hitting the X button. You both take off and follow a course that the game creates dynamically in real time.

The coolest new feature talked about in the video is barn finds. There are apparently historic cars hidden in barns throughout the Horizon world. When you find one, you can have it restored to running order and use it as your own ride. Check out how it works in the video below.

Lastly, Turn 10 has announced that a Season Pass for the game will cost you $50 (or 4,000 Microsoft Points) and get you the "Forza Horizon" Expansion pack, six game-car packs with six vehicles each, as well as five exclusive season-pass vehicles and the launch-day pack.

Kalahari announces 'pre-order cure' promotion for rAge

rAge 2012 Banner Logo

You may remember that late last month kalahari.com launched a mysterious viral campaign for its stand at the upcoming rAge expo.

Now the online retailer has revealed that every customer who comes to its ‘ward’ (Stand 60) will unlock a cure for the ‘pre-order zombie apocalypse’. What this means in plain English is that every visitor to kalahari.com’s stand will receive a voucher valued from R75 to R500 that can be redeemed on its website. This is a great promotion considering that many classic games on kalahari.com aren’t much more than R75.

rAge 2012 runs from October 5th to October 7th at the Coca-Cola dome in Northgate, Johannesburg. El33tonline will be at Stand 16 if you want to come say hi, play some games, and win a wide variety of awesome prizes!

PSX games now available in the Android Market, if you own an Xperia Play

PlayStation One games on the Android Market
If you're lucky enough to own an Xperia Play -- Sony Ericsson's new Gingerbread-powered smartphone-cum-gamepad -- you can now buy PlayStation (PSX) titles from the Android Market.

There are five titles currently available, all priced at £3.99: Syphon Filter, MediEvil, Cool Boarders 2, Destruction Derby, and Jumping Flash. They don't have an American price yet, but that will surely change once the Xperia Play launches in the States.

Two important questions remain unanswered: How big are these games? The Market descriptions say the games are only 5MB, but that sounds incredibly unlikely -- and more importantly, will it be possible to 'spoof' the Xperia Play and download PSX games onto other Gingerbread-powered phones, like the Nexus S?

In other news, the PlayStation emulator PSX4droid was recently removed from the Android Market. This obviously has nothing to do with today's release of first-party PlayStation games.
