Facebook Ads Becoming (A Little) More Valuable; Mobile May Be Next

facebook adIn the S-1 filing for Facebook's IPO, the company offers a little more insight into its advertising business, which it describes as "the substantial majority" of its revenue (and that's an understatement). In 2009, advertising accounted for 98 percent of Facebook's revenue. The number declined to 95 percent in 2010 and 85 percent last year, thanks largely to the growth of revenue from payments. Advertising revenue is climbing, though that growth has slowed ? it grew 69 percent in 2011, to $3.2 billion, but it grew 145 percent in 2010. What's driving the growth? Facebook's increasing traffic, which led to a 42 percent increase in ads served. Plus, the company says that the average price advertisers pay per ad increased by 18 percent, thanks to improved ad targeting capabilities and more prominent ad placements.

PowerDVD 12 brings syncing and transcoding for mobile devices

It's been less than a year since CyberLink revealed PowerDVD 11 and now along comes PowerDVD 12. Among the new features in 12 is the ability to sync media -- we can only assume this excludes protected content -- to PowerDVD Mobile for Android as well as automatically transcode videos for most of the popular mobile devices. Said mobile clients are only free, though, if you opt of the $99 Ultra version of PowerDVD. PowerDVD Mobile is available for everyone else for $19.99, as well as PowerDVD Remote for $4.99. Overall it seems like an iterative update that might not hit the spot at $45 (for an upgrade), but there are other new features like OGG and FLAC support that might just push you over the edge.

Super Bowl XLVI app is your guide to the big game

Super Bowl XLVI

The Super Bowl is on Sunday, and what better way to get ready for the game than with the Super Bowl XLVI Guide app? This app is aimed at everyone who will be in the metro area of Indianapolis. It will not be of much use if you're not going, unless you want to check out where some popular Indianapolis restaurants are located. Don't worry when you see that it's presented by Verizon because it is compatible with all carriers.

The Super Bowl XLVI Guide app's goal is to provide everyone in and around the Indianapolis metro area with schedules, recommendations and stadium layouts. The app provides a great 3D map of Lucas Oil Stadium, which is where the game will be played. In addition, you can find out your current location if you're lost, check out upcoming Super Bowl related events, or search categories such as Eat and Drink, which recommends popular restaurants.

It's a great companion app to have if you will be attending the game. It's free and available from the Android Market. Please find links and more screenshots after the break.

Rumormill: BMW 1 Series GT tipped for Parisian debut

2012 BMW 1 Series

We know what you're thinking: Another day, another BMW bodystyle. Except this one's different.

The Bavarian automaker, much like its fellow German marques Audi and Mercedes-Benz, has exploded its product offerings with spinoffs of its established models. So the two-door 6 Series has bred a four-door GranCoupe version. The 5 Series, in addition to the sedan and wagon, has given us the oddly proportioned 5 Series Gran Turismo. But the upcoming 1 Series Gran Turismo is another kettle of fish in that it is not expected to share the small rear-drive platform with its recently revised namesake, but rather pack a new front-drive platform.

According to BMW Blog, the long-rumored 1 Series GT will finally make its debut next fall at the Paris Motor Show. When it does, the tall hatchback will be targeted directly at the Mercedes-Benz B-Class, slotting (in form at least) in between the existing 1 Series hatchback (pictured above) and X1 crossover. But if front-wheel drive isn't how you picture your BMW channeling its power, an all-wheel xDrive version is also tipped to be in the cards, as well as a hybrid model.

Jailbreak iOS 4.3.1 on OS X or Windows with PwnageTool or Sn0wbreeze

iOS 4.3.1 jailbreakA jailbreak of iOS 4.3.1 is now possible with both PwnageTool on Mac, and Sn0wbreeze on Windows. RedmondPie -- who else? -- has some handy guides that you can follow for all iOS 4.3.1 devices on Windows, for iPhone 4 on OS X, iPad 1 on OS X, iPhone 3GS on OS X, and iPod touch 4G and 3G on OS X.

All iOS 4.3.1 jailbreaks are still tethered, meaning you'll have to jailbreak your device after every reboot. An untethered jailbreak is slated for release sometime in the next week -- but 4.3 was meant to have an untether, too, and that never emerged.

Maybe Apple's updated security mechanisms will finally keep hackers at bay!

Google Wave inches toward the grave, becomes read-only

Google Wave inches toward the grave, becomes read-only
Google won't shutter Wave entirely until April 30th, but the once clamored-for service is now seeing restrictions imposed upon it, as it prepares for its eventual rendezvous with the grim reaper. It's now read-only, which means new Waves are strictly verboten and those with anything of value in Mountain View's ocean, ought to look into the existing PDF-export functionality, or consider a migration to another open-source alternative -- like Apache Wave or Walkaround (which we've conveniently linked below). And with that folks, an era slowly draws to a close. Sayonara Wave, we hardly knew ye -- but find solace in knowing you'll always live-on in our hearts, our hands-on and inside other Google services.
