I am amazed at the level of quality available in the games people are just giving away for free on the internet. Some big name publishers and developers can learn a lesson or two from these hard working people who slave away just to give you a cool free game.
Point in case this week: Cephalopods Co-Op Cottage Defence.
This little gem is a game that made it to the Independent Games Festival finals this year and can still go on to do great things. The title says it all: You and a buddy are in a cottage, the cephalopods are attacking, and you have to co-operate to defend it. Simple!
The game features a little cottage with three walls that can be broken by the lumbering (actually, more like floating) cephalopods. Once they break through they will electrocute you, poison you, explode on you or even hop on your head to suffocate you. Remind me not to come near these things in real life.
One of you will have a shotgun while the other will have a repair tool which looks remarkably like a hammer. At any time you can switch weapons simply by raising your arm. If your buddy agrees to swap, the trade takes place.
Working together it is not a case of surviving the attack, it is more like how long can you stay alive before you are overrun. It is a great little time waster and you have to play with a friend locally on your PC sharing the keyboard, or even with a controller.
Float over to SpookySquid Games to have a look at this (and other) free game for a lot of fun in short bursts.
Oltman’s Friday Freebie is El33tonline’s weekly look at great, free games that Oltman has discovered after delving into the depths of the internet in search of rare gems. Leave the deep-sea diving to him - it’s dangerous, risky work - but feel free to recommend future freebies for us to take a look at.
