Official: Lamborghini opens new prototype development center

Lamborghini has formally opened its newest location, a center for advanced prototyping and assembly study in Emiliana. As a symbol of the more Earth-friendly tech Lamborghini plans to bring to its cars, the two-story building is the first multistory building in Italy with a Class A environmental rating (it uses less than eight kilowatts per hour per cubic meter), achieved through features like polycarbonate walls, ceramic cladding and a photovoltaic system that provides all of the building's electricity needs. The company says that the zero-CO2 impact allowed by the solar energy system is the standard for all of its new buildings from now on.

The workers inside will be developing the next wave of prototype Lambos, and on the second floor they'll be building them. The upper story has a miniature assembly line where small-run concepts like the Sesto Elemento can be built, but they can also study methods on the actual production lines to improve processes. As part of the inauguration to the area Lamborghini will also be donating to area schools and cultural monuments damaged in the recent earthquake. Have a read of the press release below to find out more about it.
