The rumour has been bandied about for many months now, with vague and unconfirmed statements and images releasing here and there, but now we?ve got official confirmation on the feature: Killzone 3 will include split-screen cooperative play when it releases on PlayStation 3 in February next year.
Speaking to videogame consumer site 1Up, Killzone 3?s managing director, Herman Hulst, touched on how much more power the team at Guerrilla Games has discovered in the PS3 since the release of Killzone 2, and mentioned how the developer aims to use that extra processing muscle:
?We found a lot of power after we completed Killzone 2,? said Hulst. ?Just to give you an example on the graphics side: we pulled a level from Killzone 2 into the Killzone 3 engine and it ran at 50 percent. That’s how much power we’ve been able to find.
?You can see it in split screen co-op,? Hulst continued. ?We had to do the double rendering anyway [for stereoscopic 3D]. I don’t think there’s that much that’s suboptimal. Of course, there’s some trickery you have to do? We have a very talented technology team. They just kept hammering away at it. They just found more space and unleashed more power, basically.?
Amazing.
El33tonline managed to get some hands-on time with Killzone 3 at gamescom 2010, and we will be the first to say that, even at that stage, the game was looking overtly impressive!
You can have a look through El33tonline?s previous coverage of Killzone 3 for tons of screenshots, batches of excellent videos, and much more information. Look out for that release date of February 22nd 2011 in the US!
Be sure to read the full interview with Hulst on 1Up for more interesting Killzone 3 talk.
