Sony admits it has no "definitive plans" for Resistance franchise's future

The Resistance franchise’s dwindling commercial success represents a rather sad slice of PlayStation history. Rather than picking up sales momentum as the PS3 install base grew, the series has consistently moved south with each new entry from a commercial perspective.

Insomniac Games walked away from the franchise at the beginning of this year, leaving it in Sony’s hands. Now the platform holder has admitted that it has sidelined the series for the foreseeable future. Daniel Brooke, Sony’s online producer for Europe, told the Official PlayStation Magazine that:

“The Resistance franchise has been exciting to work on but as for the future we have no definitive plans.”

Here are the sales figures for each entry in the Resistance series according to VGChartz (as of June 9th):

  • Resistance: Fall of Man (PS3) - 4.06 million
  • Resistance 2 (PS3) - 2.32 million
  • Resistance 3 (PS3) - 1.13 million
  • Resistance: Retribution (PSP) - 0.82 million
  • Resistance: Burning Skies (PS Vita) - 0.07 million
