[Update] Added more sales figures for Xbox 360 hardware and software from the recently released NPD data. Added below. [End of Update]

New Xbox 360 - Small

The monthly NPD figures are due soon [Edit: They’re here!], and with those magical numbers we’ll be able to get a general idea of the health of the US videogame industry with a top ten list of the best-selling games for November, as well as a list of the consoles in order of sales performance.

Microsoft has already fired the first salvo, claiming console dominance in the region as well as an incredible percentage of overall market spend.

From a Twitter tweet by Chief of Staff for Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft, Aaron Greenberg:

“Xbox 360 #1 selling console according to NPD 6th month in a row with 1.4 million units, Xbox 50% of total current gen spend.”

So according to Microsoft (and sales tracking firm NPD), the Xbox 360 is once again the top-selling in the US.
