U.S. PlayStation Store Update for August 9th: Comix Zone, Freddy Krueger for Mortal Kombat and two hot demos

PlayStation Network Logo

This week’s U.S. Playstation Store update is a bit more exciting than the previous ones have been. Besides the usual presence of price tweaks, game videos, themes and add-on content, there are a few choice morsels worth mentioning.

To begin with you’ll probably want to check out the two demos on offer. Both of them are for hotly anticipated titles, namely Madden NFL 12 and Driver: San Francisco. They’ll chew up around 1.5 GB of your bandwidth per download, but you should be able to glean countless hours of entertainment from these two action-packed tasters.

The next bit of “free” content (provided you’re a PlayStation Plus subscriber) is the 1995 Sega title Comix Zone. This action platformer has a unique comic book style and you can count on the PSN port being a solid conversion thanks to the excellent work Backbone Technology has done porting other Sega classics to the platform.

If you’re a Mortal Kombat fan you’ll probably be chomping at the bit to purchase the latest DLC character for the game - Freddy Krueger. This legendary figure from the Nightmare on Elm Street series couldn’t be a more perfect fit for the MK universe, and I can’t wait to see what moves and fatalities NetherRealm Studios have decked him out with. This newest bit of DLC will set you back $4.99, or you can purchase the “Warrior Bundle” for $14.99 which contains all four DLC characters released so far (Skarlet, Kenshi, Rain and Freddy Krueger).

Finally, if you enjoy getting your hands on as much 1080P content as possible you may want to check out this week’s edition of Pulse. This PlayStation-themed variety show is only about seven minutes long but features an enjoyable recap of all the latest games, add-ons and Blu-rays you can enjoy on PS3.
