If you’ve visited El33tonline lately you’ll know that we’ve been covering (and enjoying) the Uncharted 3 Multiplayer Beta for the last two weeks or so. Sadly the Beta ended this past Friday, but that doesn’t mean we’ve forgotten about it. In fact, the Beta has pushed Uncharted 3 to the forefront of our minds and it’s unlikely that it will budge from this prominent position until well after the week of November 1st (the game’s release date).
Naughty Dog has released some stats in the wake of the Beta’s demise, and it’s fair to say the initiative was an overwhelming success. The Beta was the most popular in the PlayStation 3’s four and half year history in terms of number of unique players - 1.53 million to be precise. A total of 22 million matches were completed during the two weeks the Beta ran for, amounting to more than 362 years of game time.
It will be fascinating to see how long this record stands for. Perhaps the inevitable God of War IV will have a multiplayer mode and the Beta for this will prove even more popular than Uncharted 3’s has. We’ll just have to wait and see!
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank Naughty Dog for delivering such an awesome and well-received Beta. The initial offering we got on June 28th was pretty polished to begin with, but a few small patches over the ensuing week or so made it seem as if we were playing the final product. We had loads of fun trying out all the new features and weapons, not to mention admiring the stunning new locales which showed off the tweaked graphics engine to great effect.
You can read through our previous Uncharted 3 coverage over here, and expect plenty more coverage of this Game of the Year candidate as we approach its November 1st and November 2nd release dates in the US and Europe respectively.
