Sony Computer Entertainment announced today that 6 July will mark the end of the extended PlayStation Store outage in Japan. Sony’s motherland is ironically the last region in the world to have the full range of PlayStation Network services restored after the devastating hack on the network in late April.
The reason behind the month-long delay (the PS Store came back online in USA and UK on June 2nd) has been attributed to Sony having to fulfil undisclosed security demands from the Japanese government before they could reopen the Store.
Having the Japanese PS Store back online will be a huge boon for both the local and international gaming population. Demos for games such as Yakuza: Of the End, Catherine and El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron are released months before they appear on the U.S. or UK Store, so I’m confident there will be many more samples of highly anticipated PS3 and PSP titles to download in the coming weeks thanks to the Japan Store’s long-awaited return.
