The weekend’s come early here at El33tonline, with today being a public holiday in South Africa most of the El33t team have taken Friday off to enjoy some extra gaming time.
It’s an interesting mix of games on the menu this weekend (isn’t it always), ranging from new releases like Alice: Madness Returns, Duke Nukem: Forever and inFamous 2 to older titles that are still worthy of our attention like Red Dead Redemption and Dead Nation.
Oltman
“There is only one thing I like more than weekends…LONG weekends! And if you have Friday and Monday off from your day job then your alter gaming super hero ego can come out and play!
Alas, Super Olt (not to be confused with Super Oli, although they are equally good looking and share common allergies) will not be gaming much this weekend. His alter ego is doing some more humanitarian work in Johannesburg.
This means Super Olt will miss out on some of the great new releases coming this week. However, Monday will be his rest day and he expects to head to the Wild West with his sidekick Brattex Boy. We have recently discovered the awesomeness of Read Dead Redemption’s multiplayer, and its about time my old nag rides off into the sunset after a successful zombie survival. Yeehaw!
Hopefully the Dead Nation download would have completed over the weekend and some more zombie survival could be on the cards. Although with my luck in big downloads I am not holding my breath even if Super Olt can hold his breath for 2 and a half minutes.”

“The Long Day is Over…
Who knows what I’ll be getting up to this weekend? There are a few different ways that this could go, and by ‘a few ways,’ I mean two.
I might be playing Alice: Madness Returns, and I might not be.
It’ll be exciting to experience the new vision of Wonderland to escape the mind of American McGee and his development team at Spicy Horse, with all of the classic characters included, but in disturbing, twisted forms. If I’m not playing Alice, however, I’ll probably (finally) get around to playing Stacking (and the Lost Hobo King DLC), and perhaps I’ll give Double Fine Productions some more money via Steam now that the rights to Psychonauts have reverted back to the developer. I look forward to giving Tim Schafer and co. more money when Trenched releases next week (June 22nd!).
I also look forward to indulging in my new hobby of watching way old movies to see where famous film quotes really come from. We’ll always have Paris, y’all.”
Bryan
“What better way to mark the beginning of a long weekend than with a total lunar eclipse?
If anyone is wondering what’s so special about Thursday, well, in South Africa we’re celebrating something known as National Boardgame Day (I am kidding thee not, it really is National Boardgame Day!) and the rest of my weekend is going to be spent finishing off KUNG FU PANDA 2.On the cards for Saturday has to be the biggest rugby event of the weekend: Sharks vs. Bulls. Of course, we’ll know the fate of these two teams once the Waratahs have played, but it’s still going to be an interesting contest! If I have any extra time that’s not spent with family or friends it will most probably be spent in the Wild West against the undead hordes. Let’s hope I survive the eclipse and the zombie apocalypse and see you guys on Monday…”

“Duke’s giving me a look that means business, so I can see myself playing through the rest of the campaign.
As Bryan has reminded us it’s National Boardgame Day, so just like paying your TV license is the right thing to do I’ll be dusting off ye old boardgames and rolling the dice.”
Lisa
“Even though I have inFamous 2 lined up, I may have to arm wrestle Oliver for Alice: Madness Returns. It’s been intriguing (and disturbing) me for a while now and I can’t wait to spend some time in Wonderland.
I’ll also be settling some scores in a few boardgames this afternoon, and what’s better than sharing a braai with a few mates on a sunny public holiday.
Enjoy the weekend folks and happy gaming.”

“So many games to play; so little time. Hang on! It’s a long weekend (if you managed to get off work on Friday) which means there’re plenty of opportunities to make your eyes even squarer…
I’m not exaggerating when I say there’s a lot to play. inFAMOUS 2, Red Johnson’s Chronicles, L.A. Noire (including the downloadable missions), Wipeout HD Fury… the list goes on. I’m really excited about getting stuck into L.A. Noire but inFAMOUS 2 is pretty tempting too. I’m about halfway through the latter and am mightily impressed with the graphics engine Sucker Punch has masterminded. Sure, there’s a little slowdown from time to time, but the frame rate is one of the quickest you’ll find in an open-world game on consoles, and the lighting and textures are also superb.
Enjoy the weekend everyone and I hope you all have some picture-perfect gaming moments during the break.”
