Media Create Japanese Hardware Sales for week ending 29th May: 3DS closes the gap

This week’s Media Create numbers for hardware are up across the board. Every console except the DS Lite enjoyed an increase in sales over last week - even the down-and-out PSP go won over 11 more Japanese consumers than it did during the previous period.

Nintendo 3DS - Colours

The 3DS is not prepared to “go gently into that good night” as it picks up some steam on the back of an anticipated software release (One Piece: Unlimited Cruise SP) and closes the gap with the ever-dominant PSP to 9 326 units.

Nintendo will also be pleased to see that Wii sales increased by 1 169 units over last week - the weeks prior to that had all been downhill for the fledgling piece of hardware.

The PS3 sold well (15 987 units) considering that PSN only resumed in Japan during the last few days, and the reopening of the PS Store in Asian territories won’t happen until next week at the earliest.

It will be interesting to see if the 3DS can continue gaining momentum over the next few weeks, and at what point it finally edges past the PSP.
